Deadlock averted as Matej Tonin elected speaker

Ljubljana, 22 June - Matej Tonin, the 34-year-old leader of the conservative party New Slovenia (NSi), was elected speaker of parliament by a near unanimous vote at the inaugural session on Friday in a cross-partisan bid designed to break the deadlock after neither right nor left bloc won a clear majority in the 3 June election.
