Slovenia's Klemen Prepelič joins Real Madrid
Madrid, 9 July - Klemen Prepelič, a member of the Slovenian national basketball team, signed a two-year contract on Monday to join Spanish giant Real Madrid, the club said.
Prepelič, the 25-year-old Slovenian captain during the latest 2019 World Cup qualifiers, signed the contract with the new European club champions after passing medical checks, the club said on its website.
Media had reported before that Prepelič would join Real. He was said to be on head coach Pablo Lasa's wish list ever since last year's EuroBasket.
As a shooting guard, Prepelič helped Slovenia win the EuroBasket last September, putting up impressive performances and statistics.
At the time the Spanish newspaper Marca said "It is unbelievable that such a high-quality player would not be in a EuroLeague team."
Prepelič is coming to Real from France's Levallois-Metropolitans, for which he signed a one-year contract in the summer of 2017. This was the sixth club he signed with in as many seasons.
At the end of last season, Read Madrid was left by two outstanding Slovenian players, Luka Dončić and Anthony Randolph.
