Unions urge new army chief to help improve soldier status

Ljubljana, 27 November - The two trade unions representing employees in the Slovenian Armed Forces hailed the appointment of Major General Alenka Ermenc as the new chief of the general staff on Tuesday but they expect her to engage in tackling soldiers' status, and securing their employment after the age of 45.

Two Slovenian soldiers allegedly involved in a 7 May incident on the Slovenian side of the border with Italy as they stopped at gunpoint a civilian of Italian-Slovenian citizenship while he was taking a walk in the woods with a friend.
