Janja Garnbret, a teen that swept sports climbing world

Ljubljana, 17 December - Slovenia's teen climbing sensation, Janja Garnbret made history in the sport this year by becoming the first sport climber, male of female, to win world champion titles in three disciplines, a feat that she rounded off by securing the overall Climbing World Cup victory in the women's lead discipline for the third year running.

The 19-year-old won gold in combined and bouldering at the World Climbing Championships in Austria's Innsbruck in September after she had already won the lead title in Paris two years earlier. In Innsbruck she also secured silver in the lead discipline.

Her feats, in particular winning the championship in the first ever combined event, are an indication that she will be among the top contenders when the event has its Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2020. "It has turned out that I am the most versatile competitor. It means a lot to me and it bodes really well for Tokyo," she said.
