Roglič's red jersey fetches EUR 30,000 for charity

Ljubljana, 27 September - The red jersey that Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič received as the overall winner of the Vuelta has fetched EUR 30,000 at a charity auction, money that will be spent to help talented young athletes.

The winning bid of EUR 22,000 came from the DIY chain Bauhaus, with two more bidders chipping in an additional EUR 8,000 despite losing the bidding.

The auction was organised by public radio station Val 202, which is one of the sponsors of Botrstvo, a long-running charity project that focuses on helping children through sponsorships and donations.

The funds will be set aside for youngsters who are talented but lack the financial means to develop their athletic abilities, Val 202 said on Friday.

Botrstvo has organised several such charity auctions before, most notably after Slovenia won the Eurobasket in 2017.

Like Roglič's jersey, the sneakers of Slovenian NBA star Luka Dončić fetched EUR 30,000, with the winning bid coming from Bauhaus.
