US$ 50 million Trade Deficit in January

Contrary to the last few years when Slovenia's balance of payments was balanced, this January's exports exceeded the imports by US$ 50.1 million. Slovenia's exports totaled US$ 615.4 million in January, a 5.7 percent fall over January 1996, with its imports amounting to US$ 665.5 million, or by 7.4 percent more that in the same month last year.
