Karavanke tunnel - 115 year-old engineering marvel

Klagenfurt/Jesenice, 14 May - The railway tunnel in the Karavanke mountain between Slovenia and Austria was a major construction project of the Austro-Hungarian Empire 115 years ago. Construction workers cut through the mountain on 15 May 1905 and a year later railway transport was already under way. Now, more than a century later, construction will start again there.
