Tour winner Pogačar honoured for tourism promotion
Ljubljana, 8 December - Tour de France winner Tadej Pogačar has been honoured by the Slovenian tourism community as the person who contributed the most to Slovenia's promotion around the world.
At the annual Days of Slovenian Tourism in Ljubljana on Tuesday, Pogačar won the Crystal Triglav, becoming the second cyclist to be honoured after Primož Roglič, who finished second in this year's Tour, received the accolade last year.
The Crystal Triglav is handed out by key tourism stakeholders along with the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology.
Minister Zdravko Počivalšek said "the pride of the Slovenian nation grew with every stage of the Tour de France," highlighting Slovenia as a "cycling and sporting superpower".
Pogačar said he was proud to represent Slovenia at major competitions. "I hope more tourists come to Slovenia as a result in the future."
Another honour went to Thierry Stevens, an expert on destination development. He was declared the ambassador of Slovenian tourism for 2020.
