Daily headlines - Tuesday, 2 February

Ljubljana, 2 February - Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Tuesday, 2 February:

DELO

E-tolling
"Fate of e-vignettes in the hands of auditors": As the company Iskratel announced an appeal against the decision of the state-run motorway company DARS to award the car e-tolling contract to Slovakia's Skytoll, the decision making process is now moving to the national review commission. (front page, 8)

Vaccination in the EU
"Brussels triggers an avalanche of criticism": The EU is too slow in making contracts with Covid-19 vaccine producers, the money invested is not sufficient and production capacities are too low. These are just some of the factors causing problems and delays in the process of vaccination in the EU, the paper says. (front page, 5)

Public transport
"Without students only a third of passengers": Instead of carrying 100,000 passengers on average a day, the Ljubljana public buses now transport just 33,000, which is the same as they used to transport on Saturdays. (front page, 11)

Covid-19
"What happens after return from hospital": Almost one in three Covid-19 patients that was in hospital needs hospital treatment later and nearly one in eight people die within five months after recovering from Covid-19. (front page, 2)

Slovenian municipalities
"They would like to break away from Kranj": Some local communities in the city municipality of Kranj are discussing the possibility of setting up their own municipality. People living in rural parts of the Kranj municipality say they feel like second-rate citizens and they want to change that. (front page, 7)

Tax declaration
"Novelties in tax declaration": The deadline for tax declaration is getting closer. There are some changes this year, but the fundamentals remain the same. Both companies and individuals will be able to submit their declarations through e-taxes and the deadline remains 31 March. (front page, 2, 3)

"What to be careful of if you are trading through online platforms": The interest in trading through online platforms or intermediaries has been increasing. New forms of investments and products are also available. (front page, 6, 7)

Renting
"Buying apartment to let out? See how such an investment pays off": Since banks are charging their clients for storing their money, many are considering buying apartments to let. The paper has made a comparison of costs for 40 sq. metre apartments in Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Kranj, Koper, Nova Gorica and Murska Sobota. (front page, 12, 13)

Covid-19 costs
"How much Covid costs": The public Health Insurance Institute (ZZZS) says it is paying too much for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, but hospitals say Covid affects all their processes, so the costs are realistic. (front page, 2, 3)

Protests against school closures
"Powerlessness and distress grow into anger": Protests against primary school closures are being held for the third day. The protesters are being joined by high school students. (front page, 4)

Gastronomy during epidemic
