Ljubljana, 9 April - Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Friday, 9 April:

DELO

Road ahead
"Slovenia must make important decisions": The country is split about many things, including health, welfare, taxes and politics, the paper says as it lists the challenges Slovenia will face as it returns to normal life, adding that neither the coalition nor the opposition have a majority in parliament. (front page, 5)

Pandemic
"Easing as schools open": Children will return to kindergartens and schools after a circuit-breaker lockdown on Monday as planned, while the government advisory groups also made several other recommendations. (front page, 3)

Defence Ministry payroll
"Karl Erjavec still on payroll": The paper acquired the payroll of the Defence Ministry, saying the salaries are not as poor as thought owing to a number of bonuses paid out. The best paid official at the ministry earned over EUR 7,300 gross in February, while the highest-paid officer received over EUR 9,600, the lowest salary paid out was EUR 700 gross. Minister Matej Tonin has only the 16th highest salary and former Minister Karl Erjavec still receives salary compensation a year after he left the position. (front page, 4)

"How schools became breeding ground for infections overnight": The paper wonders why schools and kindergartens even had to shut down during the circuit-breaker lockdown, saying that the minutes of a session of the government advisory group vanished. (front page, 2)

Frost
"Warm winter and early spring creating problems": The frost that hit Slovenia this week is the fifth in a decade and likely the worst. Fruit growing, once a flagship of Slovenia's agriculture, is now at the verge of survival, says expert Borut Bohanec, who believes Slovenia should start relying on GMOs capable of surviving low temperatures. Mental issues of children
"That's when it all came down": Hardships of children and youths have not been caused only by the coronavirus pandemic, but the pandemic has made things worse. The three waves of the pandemic increased the pressure of urgent healthcare services, with those being admitted mostly presenting with depression, anxiety and anorexia nervosa. (front page, 2 and 3)

Politics
"How to overcome pat position": During lockdown, various scenarios are being discussed behind closed doors, as politicians try to find a solution for the situation in which neither the coalition nor the opposition has a majority in parliament. While the coalition awaits whether Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek will return to parliament, the opposition awaits the impeachment against PM Janez Janša. (front page, 5)
