Hospitality reopening
"Preparations for tourism season get under way": Outdoor hospitality is reopening in eight Slovenian regions, including Obalno-Kraška where they say this is but a small step in reopening the industry, let alone tourism. (front page, page 3)

Slovenia-Russia ties
"Quiet rapprochement with Kremlin": Janez Janša was considered a pro-American politician but his flirting with sovereignism takes him into the embrace of the Kremlin. Signs of political proximity to Vladimir Putin may also be seen in the Slovenian government's inclination in favour of the Russian-made vaccine Sputnik V, and the non-paper on borders in the Western Balkans, which has been linked to Slovenia and agrees with Russia's interests in the region. Expulsions of Russian diplomats
"Czechia expelling Russian diplomats as well": The Czech Republic has expelled 18 Russian diplomats due to their alleged involvement in an explosion at an arms depot. Russian diplomats are also being expelled from some other countries, including the US. (front page, page 5)

Athletes' achievements
"Fearless Slovenians sharp-set for Olympic Games": The Slovenian women's judo team claimed three medals at the European championships in Lisbon and sports climber Janja Garnbret won the opening World Cup event in Meiringen in achievements that augur well for the Summer Olympics. Vox Populi poll
"One fifth of Slovenians has it harder to see a doctor": The April results of the Vox Populi poll put the voter approval rating for the government below 30%. One out of five respondents said they had difficulties accessing health services during the Covid-19 epidemic. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Coal phaseout
"Govt and environmentalists put up united front: Phase out coal by 2033": The public consultation period on the national coal phaseout strategy that concluded last week saw the government and environmentalists agree on 2033 as a sensible deadline to phase out coal. Executive pay
"That's how much bosses of listed companies made in Covid year": Jože Colarič, CEO of pharma company Krka, remains the top earner with EUR 1.23 million gross, followed by Žiga Hieng of pharma wholesaler Salus with EUR 394,000 gross, and Blaž Brodnjak, NLB CEO with EUR 387,000. Personal income tax tweaks
