The management of UAE Team emirates has officially confirmed that Pogačar will be allowed to choose the Tour of Slovenia as part of the preparation for this year's Tour de France, the most prestigious cycling race in the world that he won last year.

"I am really excited to race on home roads again. I had a busy schedule since the last race in Liege, but I am feeling well and prepared for new challenges," said Pogačar. His goal for the home race is without a doubt the overall win.

"The last time I raced in the Tour of Slovenia, I helped my teammate Diego Ulissi get the win. Our team is determined to defend last year's victory. I am glad to come home, as this is a race that I really want to win myself," said the Slovenian cycling ace.

Meanwhile Pogačar already started altitude training in Sestriere, where he travelled with his team. The Tour of Slovenia will be part of preparations for the Tour de France, where he will defend last year's victory.
