DELO

Party politics
"SDS-Left battle escalating": The biggest government party and its leader, Prime Minister Janez Janša, have launched a bitter delegitimisation campaign against the Left. The aim, according to one analyst, is to increase polarisation and discredit not just the Left but the entire liberal bloc. (front page, 2)

Giro d'Italia
"Bernal could challenge Roglič and Pogačar": The Columbian Egan Bernal, winner of the Giro d'Italia, will not appear at the Tour de France, where the Slovenians Primož Roglič and Tadej Pogačar will vie for the yellow jersey. But judging by what he showed at the Giro, he could mount a serious challenge to the Slovenians in the future. (front page, 15)

Food supplements
"When a friendly ad becomes a scam": Advertisers of food supplements are promising miraculous effects and the people are falling for it. The boundary between ad and scam is increasingly fuzzy. (front page, 4)

"Politics meddling in editorial decisions": The programming council of RTV Slovenija is expected to debate today alleged censorship of an interview with the Israeli ambassador, a demand made by a councillor from the ranks of the SDS, amidst escalating pressure on the editor-in-chief, who reportedly merely wanted to make sure all sides are equally represented. E-scooters
"Dangerous e-scooters": As the number of e-scooters grows, accidents are rising as well. Police statistics show 90% of accidents involving e-scooters are self-inflicted. (front page, 19)

Cankar Prize
"Time calls writer to account": Gašper Kralj has won the Cankar Prize for the best work of fiction published in the last year for his novel Škrbine (Stubs). (front page, 9)

FINANCE

Company results
"This is how stock companies performed in the first quarter": The majority of Slovenia's listed companies posted better Q1 results than last year. The one black sheep is Telekom Slovenije, which seems to be unable react to increasingly agile competitors amidst political staffing. (front page, 4-6)

Tourism
"What we can expect of Slovenian tourism this summer season": It appears the summer tourist season could be worse than last year's. While hoteliers on the coast are optimistic, hotels in cities are gloomy. (front page, 2, 3)

Public contracting
"Why are contracting parties using a commercial platform when the state platform is free?": The majority of contracting parties are using the free state-owned platform to publish calls for bids, but some prefer the commercial platform S-procurement. The only difference between the two is that the commercial platform does not publicly reveal the bidders or the bids. (front page, 8)

Rail investment
"Billion-strong acceleration": Slovenia has been busy investing in rail infrastructure. It has no other choice if it wants to preserve the international rail corridors and remain competitive. (front page, 2, 3)

Football
"Contradiction and deserved win for Chelsea": A goal by Kai Havertz was enough for Chelsea to win the English final of the Champions League. (front page, 17)

School-leaving exams
"Final-year students are not as playful any more": For this generation of final-year secondary school students, the whole school year was extraordinary. Their average grades are higher, perhaps because of greater leniency, but they are also less playful than previous generations, having had so much taken away from them during the pandemic.
