Economic growth
"Slovenia outdid EU in Q1": Slovenia's GDP surprisingly increased year-on-year in the first quarter quarter for the first time since the start of the Covid crisis. With a 2.3% seasonally adjusted growth Slovenia did better than the EU and eurozone, which saw a contraction. (front page, page 9)

Banks
"Hungarians buy Nova KBM": Hungarian OTP bank signed a contract to acquire Nova KBM, Slovenia's second largest bank, from the US fund Apollo and the EBRD. OTP already holds the Slovenian SKB bank and the merger with NKBM will create the country's largest bank. (front page, page 8)

Israel
"Netanyahu's final hours": After the Israeli far-right politician Naftali Bennett, the leader of the Jamina party, announced his decision to join a new government coalition, it became clear the rule of Benjamin Netanyahu is coming to an end. (front page, page 5)

Football
"Slovenia testing North Macedonia": Slovenia's national football side will test the strength of North Macedonia, one of the Euro 2020 teams, in a friendly tonight. (front page, page 18)

"Initiatives to build thousands of flats": Plots are currently available in Ljubljana to build more than 10,000 flats, without taking into account ongoing projects and large buildable sites. (front page, page 8)

Hung parliament
"Janša hasn't said anything about confidence vote yet": The ruling Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) indicated several potential moves to sober up MPs after a second attempt to dismiss Igor Zorčič as the speaker failed, including a vote of confidence in the PM. However, Janez Janša has not yet commented on the matter or revealed his plans. (front page, page 2)

"Ljubljana stock market among the most profitable in the world": SBI TOP, the benchmark index on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, has increased by 27% since January, which makes it Europe's fastest growing index and the world's eighth. (front page, pages 4, 5)

"Apollo hurries up to sell NKBM to Hungarian OTP": The US fund Apollo has sold Slovenia's second largest banking group, NKBM to the Hungarian group OTP, which is set to become the biggest bank in Slovenia. (front page, pages 10, 11)

Startups
"Why are Slovenian startups fleeing to Croatia": Croatian venture capital fund Fil Rouge Capital has invested in several Slovenian startups. With investment startups become Croatian on paper. (front page, page 6)

Economic growth
"GDP fuelled by vigorous growth in corporate investment": Slovenia's GDP increased by 1.4% in the first quarter on the quarter before and by 2.3% year-on-year, seasonally adjusted statistics show. The biggest contribution came from companies' boosting purchases of machinery, ICT equipment and lorries. (front page, pages 2, 3)

"Nova KBM goes to Hungarians": US owners have sold Nova KBM bank to the Hungarian OTP bank, which is thus becoming the largest bank in Slovenia. (front pages, 2, 4)

Hung parliament
"It's Janša's move": Opposition have responded fiercely to President Borut Pahor's assessment that there is no political crisis in Slovenia. Večer talks to coalition and opposition MPs about how realistic a new attempt to dismiss Speaker Igor Zorčič and peg it to a vote of confidence. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Football
"Spanish win christens stand": Although empty, the renovated west stand of the Maribor football stadium saw Spain defeat Croatia after 120 minutes of game in the quarter-finals of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. (front page, pages 8, 22)
