DELO

Constitution anniversary
"MP buying a slap in the face of democracy": Marking 30 years since the adoption of the Slovenian constitution, a poll commissioned by Delo shows 57% of those questioned are unhappy with the state of democracy in the country. (front page, 3)

Doctors' pay
"Doctors' pay in PKP10": The latest package of Covid legislation, which will get its first reading on the committee today, also includes a proposal to raise the top pay bracket in the public sector for the benefit of doctors. (front page, 3)

Science
"Improved perovskites": The National Institute of Chemistry has been involved in breakthrough research in which perovskites were stabilised by being wrapped in porous glass to make a compound that could be used to make LEDs or smartphone screens. (front page, 13)

Banks
"NLB wants to enter Croatia": NLB bank wants to enter Croatia but to do that a political agreement between the two countries is needed, which CEO Blaž Brodjak deems feasible. He met Foreign Minister Anže Logar over the matter earlier this month. (front page, 8)

Covid restrictions
"Tightening and loosening in fight against 5th wave". As the government is pondering measures to prevent the Omicron-driven 5th wave of coronavirus during the Christmas and New Year holidays, the paper looks at how other, better vaccinated countries are gearing up for the coronavirus storm. (front page, 4)

Insolvency procedures
"As cheap money runs out": Andrej Perdan, the head of the chamber of insolvency administrators, warns that even though the number of insolvency procedures has fallen a bit this year, many a company will likely no longer be able to finance their business once the monetary "infusion" ends. (front page, 5)

Subsidies for businesses
"Where will be the money for companies in 2022?": A number of calls offering incentives for investments will be published next year, including for tourism. Subsidies to secure liquidity, competitiveness, jobs and green projects will also continue to be available. In a separate article, the paper also reports about subsidies for energy investments. "How will EU finance recovery? With new taxes, obviously": The European Commission has proposed introducing new taxes and reallocations to help repay the EUR 800 billion in borrowing for NextGenerationEU facility. (front page, 6)

"Austrians would build shops at Šentilj": The Šentilj municipality is adopting zoning acts that would allow Austria's Huter to build a shopping centre in the area of the old border crossing in an investment the mayor says will create 200 jobs. (front page, 17).
