Vaccination
"Indecisiveness of politicians hampers mandatory vaccination": Slovenia is in a vicious circle when it comes to the question of whether to introduce mandatory vaccination. While medical experts are getting louder in supporting the idea, the government looks at this idea with calculations about the election campaign in mind. (front page, 2)

Interview
"Spontaneous tendency to a firm hand": Sociologist Spomenka Hribar and her husband, philosopher Tine Hribar, have published a joint book called Slovenian Discords and Slovenian Reconciliation, about which they speak in Delo's Saturday supplement, which this week will be published on Friday. (front page, 2)

Croatia
"Croatia expecting euro and Schengen": The outgoing year in Croatia is ending in light of the announced takeover of the euro in 2023 and the much desired accession to the Schengen Area. Relations with the neighbouring countries are not satisfactory. (front page, 6)

Pensioners
"What awaits pensioners after 1 January": The rate under which pensions in Slovenia are calculated will differ by gender of pensioners only next year, as 1 January 2023 is the date when both men and women will have their pensions calculated as 63.5% of the pension base. (front page, 3)

Omicron variant
"Rapid tests may be slow in catching omicron": The US Food and Drug Administration has warned about issues in rapid antigen tests detecting early infection with the omicron variant of the novel coronavirus. A solution could be taking an additional swab from the pharynx. (front page, 4)

FINANCE

Outgoing year
"Winners and losers of 2021": The paper lists its top 10 winners and top 10 losers in the outgoing year, which in addition to coronavirus has also been marked by inflation. (front page, 2-3)

Takeovers
"Which takeovers were largest this year, who bought what and which [takeovers] await us in 2022": The year 2021 in business will be remembered for lively takeover action - so many changes were last time seen in Slovenia before the financial crisis and downfall of tycoons. (front page, 4-5)

Stock market
"Record purchases of own shares in the US": Another stock market record in the second half of the year - US companies have never purchased such a high quantity of their own shares as in the third quarter of 2021. (front page, 8-9)

Maribor airport
"Crisis in the sky and on the ground": The Infrastructure Ministry has sent a proposal for a concession contract for the idle Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport for inter-ministerial coordination, as the drafting of the national spatial plan for an extension of the runway. (front page, 2-3)

Election
"High turnout not of everybody's liking": Turnout is expected to have a decisive influence on the result of the upcoming general election. The higher the number of new parties, the higher the turnout will be, which brings some worries for the established parties. (front page, 3)

Reckless driving
"She is guilty for friend's death": A woman from Maribor who went on a wild ride in the city borough of Studenci while intoxicated and taking two friends on the hood of the car, one of whom died in a subsequent crash, will spend three years and five months in prison. (front page, 12)
