Over 1.5 million visitor nights in top coastal destination in 2021
Portorož, 13 January - A total of 1,539,834 overnight stays were recorded last year in all accommodation establishments in the coastal municipality of Piran, which includes the popular seaside town of Portorož, and its numbers are by far the highest in Slovenia.
Last year's numbers are up by 21% compared to 2020 and only 17% below the figures in the record-breaking pre-Covid year of 2019. More than a third of all overnight stays recorded were by foreign guests, mostly Austrians, Germans and Hungarians.
Hotels generated 874,000 overnight stays last year, 30% more than in 2020 and 30% less than in 2019, while foreigners accounted for 37% of all hotel overnight stays, the Portorož Tourist Board said in a press release.
The Tourist Board carried out multiple promotional campaigns last year, presented Portorož as a tourist destination at several workshops abroad, and hosted foreign journalists, while their website has had more than one million hits in the past year.
The organisation, which also expressed intentions to step up promotion in foreign markets this year, continued its cooperation with neighbouring Istrian municipalities under the common brand Love Istria and co-organised several local events in 2021.
