DELO

Independence war veterans
"Fighter and lathe operator with equal rights": In June 1991, everyone contributed to the best of their abilities to the end of the independence war, soldiers with weapons, civilians by doing their job. Now, everyone will be able to file a claim for compensation, which bothers the veterans, who took the most risk. (front page, 4)

New testing protocol
"New PCR test only with doctor's approval": Epidemiologists who would like to keep track of the epidemic as closely as possible have been reluctant to embrace the idea of having rapid tests confirm infections, but this is precisely what is being introduced with the new protocol. (front page)

Swiss franc loan bill
"Bankers mentioning constitutional review": Slovenian banks have come out strongly against a bill the upper chamber of parliament has tabled to help several thousand borrowers who took out loans in Swiss francs at low interest rates but their monthly instalments skyrocketed when the Swiss central bank stopped protecting the value of the currency in 2015. Motorway tolls
"No more stickers after thirteen years": Toll stickers are no longer valid on Slovenian motorways starting 1 February, as e-vignettes are being fully phased in. They are linked to an individual vehicle's registration number and their validity is no longer tied to the duration of a calendar year. (front page)

Quarantines in education
"Students as well as teachers are at home": The fifth wave of the epidemic affected schools more than the previous one. A total of 338 classes of primary and secondary schools are currently in quarantine. (front page, 4)

Pre-election alliances
"Civil society calls for pre-election coalition": No concrete commitments are expected at the first meeting of the Social Democrats (SD), Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ), Left, and the Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB), with the Freedom Movement, the party of Robert Golob. The key question is whether the KUL coalition and Golob will cooperate in the election campaign. (front page, 2)

Housing loans
"Last train for record cheap housing loans?": Although unlike the American FED the European Central Bank has not announced a rise in interest rates, the EURIBOR rate, which is widely used in eurozone loan agreements, is already rising. That will sooner or later make loans more expensive. (front page, 2, 3)

Real estate investment
"How profitable apartment investments really are?": The paper has calculated how long it takes for an investment in an apartment that is being rented out in eight major Slovenian towns to pay off. (front page, 4, 5)

Auctions
"Rastoder buys restaurant Krpan in Moste": Businessman Izet Rastooder has bought restaurant Krpan in Ljubljana's Moste borough for almost a million euro. Two other bidders were at the auction. (front page, 7)

Trade unions
"Trade unions boiling": The two chief negotiators from the public sector have presented their demands for higher wages again. The SVIZ trade union of teachers will discuss strike demands on Thursday, as the government has been ignoring warnings that teachers struggle with excessive workload. (front page, 2)

New law on sick pay cost
"Employers will benefit": Amendments to the employment relationships act and health care and insurance act reduce the period of sick leave when compensation is covered by the employer or sole trader from 30 to 20 work days. (front page, 5)

Eurojackpot
"Luck for citizen and municipality": The municipality of Rogaška Slatina is hoping that the lucky winner who scooped over EUR 11 million in Eurojackpot, a syndicated lotto game featuring several European lotteries, and bought the ticket in Rogaška Slatina is a local, as the money from tax would then go to the municipality, which would use it to fund the planned construction of an observation tower. (front page, 23)
