Cross-party support indicated for Swiss franc loan bill

Ljubljana, 1 February - Cross-party support appears to be emerging for a bill that would distribute the cost of the surge in the value of the Swiss franc in 2015 between banks and some 32,000 borrowers who saw the cost of their debt in euros soar as a result. This is despite concerns voiced by the government, banks and the parliamentary legal service.

The National Assembly debates a bill to alleviate the burden on borrowers who were hit by the Swiss central bank's decision in 2015 to lift the cap on the franc-euro exchange rate. The bill's sponsor Alojz Kovšca of the upper chamber pictured first from the right.
