Slovenian diaspora plans many events ahead of Culture Day

Szentgotthard/Gorizia/Trieste/Klagenfurt, 4 February - Slovenian communities abroad will organise a number of events ahead of the Slovenian Culture Day on 8 February, including a ceremony on Friday organised by two Slovenian organisations in Hungary, which will be attended by Minister for Slovenians Abroad Helena Jaklitsch.

The minister will attend another ceremony on Sunday, organised by the two umbrella organisations of the Slovenian minority in Italy - the Slovenian Cultural and Economic Union (SKGZ) and the Council of Slovenian Organisations (SSO).

The Government Office for Slovenians Abroad said the ceremony would take place at the Verdi Municipal Theatre in Gorizia, while several other celebrations and events were planned in Trieste and some smaller towns and villages as well.

On the day of the Slovenian public holiday on 8 February, a ceremony will be held in Trieste, where the winners of the 50th Mladika Literary Competition will be announced by the Trieste-based publishing house Mladika.

Several exhibitions, concerts, and other types of cultural events will also be held in smaller towns in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region that borders on Slovenia.

Events making the holiday will also take place in the Austrian state of Carinthia, hosted by Slovenia's Consulate-General in Klagenfurt and several cultural organisations, and in the Croatian town of Pula, hosted by the local Slovenian cultural association.

The Government Office for Slovenians Abroad noted that it was possible that some of the planned events may not take place due to the ongoing epidemiological situation.
