Ski jumper Peter Prevc places fourth in men's Olympic individual

The silver medal went to Austria's Manuel Fettner (270.8 points) and the bronze to Poland's Dawid Kubacki (265.9 points).

The 29-year-old Prevc, who was second after the first round, scored 265.4 points in the end after judges deemed the style of his second jump to be worse than Kubacki's.

Another Slovenian ski jumper made it to the top ten as Timi Zajc placed ninth. Anže Lanišek was 13th and Lovro Kos 28th. Apart from Prevc, all of them are competing at the Olympic Games for the first time.

Speaking to the reporters after the competition, Prevc, who is famous for his stoicism, looked deeply disappointed. "I'm feeling a bit down. I missed out on a medal by a whisker," he said, adding that despite this being his best ranking this season, it did not really carry any weight.

Asked about the way judges awarded points, he replied every judge decided on their own. The coach of the Slovenian men's ski jumping team, Robert Hrgota, was meanwhile somewhat more critical of judges, saying Prevc had deserved more points for his second jump.

"Congratulations to everyone, especially to Peter for two great jumps. He has nothing to reproach himself for...for me, this fourth place is like a medal," Hrgota said, noting that the team had three more competitions to look forward to. "I'm glad that the level of jumping is high," he added.

The Slovenian male ski jumpers will have another opportunity to win an Olympic medal already on Monday, when they will compete together with their female counterparts in the mixed team event. The latter were more successful yesterday, as Urša Bogataj became the Olympic champion and Nika Križnar won the bronze medal in what was the first time ever that more than one Slovenian athlete has made the Olympic podium in the same event.

The men's Olympic downhill event was also supposed to take place today, but it was postponed to Monday due to strong winds.
