Ljubljana, 10 February - Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Thursday, 10 February:

DELO

General election
"Pressure on parties to set out solutions": On signing the decree calling the general election, President Borut Pahor called on parties not to narrow down election debates to questions of who cooperates with whom or against whom, but rather to devote discussion to visions and plans about the future. (front page, page 2)

Nuclear fusion
"Record experiment": Researches of EUROfusion, which also includes Slovenian experts, produced a record amount of nuclear-fusion energy at the JET experimental reactor in the UK in an achievement that bodes well for the ITER reactor. (front page, page 13)

Berlin International Film Festival
"Red carpet without a fuss": The red carpet is laid out in front of the Berlinale Palast in Berlin's Potsdamer Platz, but it will see no buzz of festival activity due to Covid. (front page, page 16)

Public sector pay
"Best paid are doctors": Of the 550 top earners in the public sector last year almost all were doctors. Top earner received EUR 191,149 gross including bonuses in eleven months. (front page, page 3)

General election
"Pahor kept his promise, election to be on 24 April": President Borut Pahor has called the parliamentary election for 24 April, the first possible date. (front page, page 2)

Sick leave
"On sick leave for twelve years": A Slovenian citizen has been on sick leave for twelve years. One of the reasons for long absence from work is also excessively long waits for diagnosis and treatment. (front page, page 3)

FINANCE

Tax audits
"FURS inspections at flat-rate SPs. What are they looking for?": The paper has analysed the tax status of sole proprietors who pay 20% tax on 20% of their income, looking at how much tax they pay and what tax inspectors look out for. Most are scientists and researchers. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Price hikes
"Awful prices of metals, awfully pricey green transition": Copper, lithium, nickel and cobalt prices are going up and will reach record levels by 2030 where they will stay for years. Apart from inflation the development will also slow down green transition. (front page, page 4)

Auctions
"Marko Mohar offers EUR 2.4 million for ill-fated Izola water park": One of the wealthiest Slovenians has submitted the best bid to buy almost four hectares of plots in Izola, part of the bankruptcy estate of builder Primorje and its subsidiary TPC Livade. (front page, pages, 6, 7)

General election
"Campaign under way for quite a while": Signing a decree setting 24 April as the date of the general election, President Borut Pahor called for a high level of cultured dialogue. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Public sector pay demands
"Govt has time until Tuesday": Public sector trade unions have given the government until Tuesday to come up with a concrete proposal in response to their demands for higher pay or else they will decide to step up strike activities. (front page, page 4)

Judge in the dock
"Having declared judgement, he now sits in the dock": Zvjezdan Radonjić, a former judge, is being tried for slander over the allegations he made against a judge and prosecutor in April 2019 when he acquitted Milko Novič of the murder of the former boss of the National Institute of Chemistry. (front page, page 12)

Cost of living crisis
"Solution instalment payments": Rising prices, in particular of heating, have begun to reflect in default on payments. (front page, page 6)
