At a special ceremony in Villa Podrožnik, the minister also honoured ten Slovenian minority members or emigrants who have returned to their homeland in the last 30 years with commemorative medals marking the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's independence, the Office said in a press release.

In her address, Jaklitsch noted the great importance of Slovenians abroad for the successful outcome of the country's independence efforts and international recognition.

"Many thanks to all of you who have been active within the Slovenian communities you come from. You have given countless volunteer hours, care and sacrifice to preserve and strengthen the Slovenian language, poems, culture and discourse among our compatriots," the minister said.
