Ljubljana, 19 July - Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Tuesday, 19 July:


Economic growth
"Slovenia's economic growth third lowest in EU": The European Commission forecasts Slovenia's economic growth will be the third lowest in the EU next year. The economy is to expand by mere 1%, which people will experience as a crisis that will start at the end of this year. (front page, 8)

Ukraine war
"Purge among close aides": After numerous cases of collaboration with the occupying forces and treason among their staff, Ukraine's prosecutor general and head of security had to step down. President Volodymyr Zelensky already appointed acting heads. (front page, 5)

"Fire under control but danger still there": The fire in the Renški Vrh area that started on Sunday is now under control as firefighters managed to stop it just 500 metres before the village of Lokvica. (front page, 3, 6)


Artificial insemination
"Discriminated against in treating of infertility": Single women and same-sex couples are still not welcome at clinics offering artificial insemination. The Constitutional Court is currently deliberating on two cases related to this. (front page, 5)

"In case of emergency, we will use old power plants": In case of disruption in the supply of Russian gas a part of Slovenian economy and industry would surely grind to a halt. Demand for electricity would suddenly increase. (front page, 5)


Gas supply
"Who and how will be cut off in Slovenia if gas is out": In the worst case scenario, if the supply of Russian gas is cut, households will be given priority in the supply of gas, meaning that industry will be cut off. But questions will emerge which services are essential. (front page, 2-5)

Labour market
"In hospitality sector number of employees reaches pre-epidemic level": The number of active population in Slovenia rose by 2.6% to 920,085 in May, a record so far. The biggest increase was recorded in the hospitality sector. (front page, 8)

Real estate
"What to be careful of when buying land for a house": The purchase of land for building a house is a major financial investment and in many cases hides many risks. (front page, 12, 13)


"Heat, drought and fire": A new heat wave is starting with temperatures expected to rise over 40 degrees Celsius. The heat causes drought and fires. (front page, 2-3)

National Electoral Commission
"SDS targeting Dušan Vučko": Officials from the opposition Democrats (SDS) want the head of the National Electoral Commission, Dušan Vučko, to be dismissed. (front page, 5)

"Assets of the accused unfrozen": The Koper court was unable to extend the seizure of assets of four people allegedly involved in abuse of prostitution at the Marina nightclub. (front page, 13)
