Kras fire
"Thousand firefighters battling fire and wind": Voluntary and professional firefighters from across the country are worn out, having battled flames in the Kras region for five days. The images left behind by the blaze are apocalyptic. (front page, 4, 5)

Cap on gas prices
"State to pay for cheaper gas for citizens": In line with the expectations the government capped prices of natural gas for protected consumers, mainly households, health and social care institutions and small commercial consumers. (front page, 3)

Tour de France
"Pogačar surrenders yellow jersey to Vingegaard": Tadej Pogačar will have to settle for a second spot and the white jersey for best young rider in the Tour de France after missing the last chance to win the yellow for the third year running in stage 18. (front page, 19)

"Crocodile tears as farewell": It was a resounding applause and crocodile tears as the Italian parliament bid farewell to Mario Draghi yesterday after he tendered his irrevocable resignation to President Sergio Mattarella. (front page, 6)


Heat wave
"Overheated hospitals, dry water pipes": With the heat wave engulfing the country, the conditions in hospitals, many of which do not have air conditioning, are unbearable for some patients. (front page, 3)

Gas supply
"Gas running to the west again, govt capping prices": Russia resumed its gas supplies to Europe yesterday but the continent, along with Slovenia, is getting ready for a winter without Russian gas. The Slovenian government took measures to deal with gas supply yesterday. (front page, 6, commentary 14)

"Bled: Best-day tourism back": Bled, one of the most beautiful alpine resorts in Europe, is teeming with visitors again, following two difficult Covid years. (front page, 8)


Kras fire
"Superhuman struggle": After firefighters battled flames in Kras all day long, the situation stabilised somewhat so that more than 400 evacuated residents were able to spend the night at their homes. (front page, 4, 5)

Cap on gas prices
"After electricity, gas prices regulated": Gas prices will be capped for a year from 1 September for protected consumers such as households, healthcare and social care. (front page, 2)

Interest rates
"Inflation not to be over yet": The ECB's Governing Council has raised the key interest rate by half a percentage point rather than a quarter of a point as initially announced. (front page, 6)

Tour de France
"Great battle won by Dane": With three more days to go to the end of the Tour de France, Dane Jonas Vingegaard has all but secured the yellow jersey. Tadej Pogačar is the runner-up overall. (front page, 14)
