Slovenian millionaires
"More than hundred million euros looking for targets": Ivo Boscarol and Joc Pečečnik have publicly announced that they are looking for investment opportunities after they had sold their companies. Some other entrepreneurs who have sold their companies are doing this quietly. (front page, 9)

Fishing
"Fishermen on the dry": As water levels of Slovenian waters are record-low, the Fishing Association has recommended fishing clubs to restrict their activity. Some of them followed the recommendation, with fishing on the Savinja river being banned for several weeks. (front page, 3)

Volleyball
"New coach firmly on the ground for a noble flight": As the Volleyball Men's World Championship, co-hosted by Slovenia, is two weeks away, the Slovenian team had its first practice yesterday under the guidance of the new head coach, Romanian Gheorghe Cretu. (front page)

Fire
"Fire on Socerb fought from the air and trails": The fire on the Socerb hill in south-western Slovenia was fought yesterday by 120 firefighters and seven helicopters and other aircraft. The fire broke out on an inaccessible terrain, and the bora wind spread it to more than 100 hectares of forest, olive groves and pastures. (front page, 7)

Covid-19
"Half-year stalling in purchasing paxlovid": Officially, the Health Ministry and the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) have been trying to purchase paxlovid, the latest medication for Covid-19, since the beginning of the year, while in fact the NIJZ launched the procedure to buy the medication directly from Pfizer only in July. (front page, 4)

FINANCE

Taxes and social affairs
"How flat-rate taxpayers and how full-time employees get cheaper kindergarten, child benefit and non-profit rent": The apparent earnings of sole proprietors entitled to flat-rate deduction who actually make large earnings are so low that they have an advantage when it comes to social transfers. This, on the other hand, affects foreigners who frequently cannot obtain a work permit. (front page, 2-3)

Solar power paradox
"The more the sun shines, the more of them has to be switched off": Bavarian entrepreneur Jens Husemann owns a solar power plant on the roof of a transport company in Aurach that needs to switch off the solar plant when the sunlight is the most abundant because the German electricity network is overloaded. (front page, 5)

Subsidies
"What can be caught out from this year's half a billion-worth of tenders": There is money available for environmental investments and for subsidies for employment of young people and incentives from the Recovery and Resilience Plan. (front page, 4-5)

Covid-19
"Self-testing in new school year": Three weeks ahead of the start of the new school year, the government task force for Covid-19 has prepared two scenarios - self-testing at home only for students who have symptoms or who have been in close contact with an infected person, and self-testing at home for all students once a week. Presidential election
"Will Pahor serve as an example?": The paper wonders whether candidates in the campaign for the presidential election will opt for a style similar to incumbent President Borut Pahor, and notes that the most untapped campaign space is on social networks. (front page, 3)

Workers
"Cleaners in UKC Maribor: Government should take action": The Trade Union of Hospitality and Tourism has called on Labour Minister Luka Mesec and Prime Minister Robert Golob to do something about the situation of cleaners at the UKC Maribor hospital, who have lost all their benefits as they were transferred to another contractor. (front page, 4)

Digital competence
"Only 697 spots available in Podravje": People who have not yet applied for digital literacy courses for persons older than 55, which is a condition to obtain EUR 150 vouchers for the purchase of digital equipment, are most likely too late. (front page, 17)
