Koper and Klagenfurt to enhance cooperation

Koper, 7 October - The Slovenian city of Koper and Austria's Klagenfurt partnered up to cooperate in climate change, environmental protection, e-mobility, trade fairs, education, culture and science, the Koper municipality said on Friday after mayors Aleš Bržan and Christian Scheider signed a city partnership agreement.

The two cities checked the potential for cooperation in smart cities and sustainable development when a delegation from Klagenfurt visited Koper in July last year.

Today's signing of the agreement makes the partnership, which will be based on the transfer of good practices, official.

Klagenfurt can serve as an example of good practice in solar energy and Koper can provide know-how and experience of mobility, the release says.

Koper Mayor Brežan said he believed the partnership will bring concrete improvements in various areas, but above all in business, "where we will make an effort to further improve the cooperation between the port of Koper and the logistics centre in Fürnitz".

His view was shared by Scheider, who pointed to the role of cooperation when cities are facing major challenges such as climate change and environmental protection. He believes that the partnership agreement with Koper will create an even stronger link between the Alpine and the Mediterranean areas.
