Minority on agenda as Pahor meets Meloni in Egypt

Sharm el Sheik, 7 November - President Borut Pahor met Italy' new Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the sidelines of the COP27 climate change conference in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday with one of the topics discussed the Slovenian minority in Italy.

"A longish, useful discussion with the new Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni. We committed to continuing the excellent relations between the neighbouring countries. To my question about the Slovenian minority she replied that her government would maintain a favourable position," Pahor wrote on his Twitter account after the meeting.

On the sidelines of the climate conference, Pahor also met John Kerry, the US president's special envoy for climate. He thanked Kerry for his commitment to solving the environment and climate emergency, reads a tweet on Pahor's profile, adding that they also discussed the importance of the US midterm election on Tuesday.

Pahor also met the presidents of the Comoros and Zimbabwe, Azali Assoumani and Emmerson Mnangagwa, both of whom he invited to the Africa Day conference in Slovenia and presented Slovenia's bid to serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2024-25.

Pahor also had a brief meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
