Nordic World Ski Championships
"Lanišek and Kranjec in the running for World Championships medals": A few more weeks are left before the start of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica and the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships, and ski jumper Anže Lanišek and skier Žan Kranjec are one of the favourites among Slovenian athletes. Ukraine
"Orthodox Christmas underground": The 36-hour ceasefire in Ukraine that was declared by Russia over Orthodox Christmas has not turned into reality as fighting continued and many Ukrainians, especially those living close to the border, had to celebrate the holidays underground, in shelters or basements. (front page, page 5)

"Is Slovenia co-funding Putin's war too?": Statistical data shows that Russia's exports to Slovenia increased from EUR 352 million in 2021 to nearly EUR 1 billion in the first nine months of 2022, the highest figure in the past two decades or ever since such data started to get collected. Most EU countries have seen the increase in Russia's imports despite sanctions. (front page, page 4)

Waste
"Piles of packaging waste still there": Packaging waste continued to pile up in dedicated regional centres last year as companies refused to collect the waste due to the changed rules. Slopak's lawsuit over the matter was recently rejected by the Constitutional Court. (front page, page 2)

Taxes
"Why doctors are not obliged to pay taxes, but you do": Doctors working in new offices for patients without a named GP are exempt from paying a special tax on subcontracts because they will work there on voluntary basis on top of their regular hours. (front page, page 5)

"Anniversary iteration to be held in Maribor": US skiing star Mikaela Shiffrin won yesterday's giant slalom in Kranjska Gora to equal Lindsey Vonn's World Cup record of 82 wins. Next year's 60th iteration of the Golden Fox event is expected to be again held in Maribor. (front page, pages 2, 17-19)

Doctors' strike
"Appointments and surgeries postponed": The trade union of doctors and dentists Fides will stage a token strike on Wednesday, which means that non-urgent appointments and surgeries will be pushed back and wait times further prolonged. (front page, page 5)

"Space ambitions": Slovenia has been intensively promoting the development of space technologies in recent years, helping companies and increasing its space ambitions. (front page, page 6)

WWII resistance
"Foundations of today's Slovenia": Attending the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of a WWII battle, President Nataša Pirc Musar noted the importance of the resistance movement for Slovenia's independence later. (front page, pages 8-9)
