Cortina d'Ampezzo, 20 January - Skier Ilka Štuhec won second place in the downhill race in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Friday. Skiing on an injured ankle, she was only 0.13 seconds slower than the winner, Sofia Goggia of Italy. German Kira Weidle was third, lagging behind Goggia by 0.36 seconds.

This was Štuhec's second podium this winter, with the Maribor-native climbing to second place in the downhill world cup rankings, while Goggia remains firmly at the top.

Štuhec sprained her ankle when she fell at the super-G event in St Anton last weekend. Goggia, too, fell last weekend and both skipped a race, only to return strong today.

Tomorrow morning another downhill race will take place in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
