Shrinkflation
"Same or higher price for smaller quantity": The concealed raising of prices by means of items shrinking in size or quantity, i.e. shrinkflation is noticeable in Slovenia in food products. An increasing number of producers are using this tactic. (front page, 3)
Bear culling
"Bears in political conflicts": The opposition New Slovenia (NSi) has called extraordinary sessions of two parliamentary committees to discuss the Robert Golob government suspending the decree on culling of brown bears and Golob's alleged interference in expert decisions. (front page, 2)
Bankruptcies
"Already a third bank bankruptcy in a few weeks": The bankruptcy of First Republic Bank, a third bankruptcy of a regional bank in the US the last few weeks is drawing even more attention to the Fed on interest rates, which is expected today. (front page, 6)
DNEVNIK
Farming land
"Golob government undertaker of farmland fund": The national Farmland and Forest Fund, which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, may become a thing of the past if changes to the Game and Hunting Act are passed in the current form. Will the Robert Golob government manage to do something that neither of the three Janez Janša governments managed, despite attempts to do so, the paper wonders. (front page, 2)
Bežigrad Sports Park
"Are minister and Pečečnik negotiating Plečnik stadium?": Entrepreneur Joc Pečečnik has apparently not given up on the Bežigrad Sports Park project, as he is reportedly holding meetings with the culture minister. The most probable topic is sale of the dilapidated stadium designed by Jože Plečnik. (front page, 8)
FINANCE
Debt restructuring in Marinblu
"Rozana, Boris and creditors in Wonderland": The question of survival of Marinblu, the fish-packing company that faced allegations of inhumane treatment of workers and poor sanitary condition, is simple. Would anyone cooperate with or trust a "new" Marinblu even if the Šuštars are no longer owners of the company, the paper wonders. (front page, 4-5)
Labour market
"Lowest unemployment rate and staff shortage means we need to become more attractive to foreigners": On the occasion of Labour Day, the paper notes that the labour market is in a good shape, but that demographics is merciless - the number of employed persons is higher due to higher employment of foreigners. (front page, 2-3)
ECB
"Interest rates to be probably raised again tomorrow": The governing council of the European Central Bank (ECB) is meeting again tomorrow, and a new raise of interest rates is expected. Such an expectation is also driven by Eurostat recently reporting that inflation in the eurozone again increased in April. (front page, 8-9)
VEČER
Party finances
"How parties operated": The 2022 super-election year was a major financial burden for the largest political parties, which operated in the red. The Democrats (SDS) nevertheless operate with a EUR 1.3 million surplus, and recently launched a billboard campaign calling people to join their "large family". (front page, 2-3)
Doctors' wages
"Government's proposal far from doctors' demands": The paper reveals the government's proposal of tariffs to the doctors' trade union, under which the majority of doctors would get a few hundred euros higher gross wages. The proposal for nurses is also "similarly modest". (front page, 3)
Child pornography
"New sentence for MP who never meant to be": Stanko Recek from Dolnji Slaveči, who was an MP candidate for the Democrats (SDS) in 2018, has confessed to committing a criminal act of possessing and distributing sexual material involving minors in 2016 and 2017. (front page, 12)
