Sajeta bringing another week of unbridled music in nature
Tolmin, 30 June - Sajeta, the arts and music festival that brought the festival scene to the Soča river in Tolmin 25 years ago, will welcome fans of genre-transgressing music yet again from next Tuesday to Sunday. Various workshops for adults and children as well as other accompanying events are on the schedule along with 20 music performances.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of the confluence of the Soča and Tolminka rivers, the 24th edition of Sajeta will set the venue for another cultural and artistic laboratory in nature, moving contemporary practices from their customary urban hubs.
With funding support from the Culture Ministry restored this year, the organisers announced some big names, starting with leading German electronic music producer, composer and musician Burnt Friedman.
Another highlight, on Friday, is the 11-member Belgian group Alpacas Collective, which brings a fusion of afro-beat, jazz and funk. On the same evening, visitors will be transported to South Korea, courtesy of the acoustic duo Dal:um.
Music's unbounded potential will be manifested by the Fawda band from Bologna with a mix of electronic music, contemporary jazz, and Moroccan Gnawa music, and by the American electronic duo Matmos.
Musicians from 10 countries will be featured, including from Slovenia, which will be represented by one of the brightest stars of the country's "free music" scene Samo Kutin, along with the contemporary jazz trio TiTiTi. While Kutin will join forces with French sound researcher Pascal Battus, TiTiTi will be joined by Serbian pianist Marina Džukljev.
The focal point of the accompanying programme will be an interactive exhibition entitled Suba Soba, which will celebrate the late Serbian composer, musician and producer Mitar Subotić Suba.
