Three Slovenian families evacuated from Rhodes

Ljubljana, 23 July - The Foreign Ministry has said that three Slovenian families have been evacuated from the Greek island of Rhodes, which has been engulfed in wild fires. The ministry strongly advises Slovenians not to travel to Rhodes, especially not to the south-east of the island. The ministry is closely monitoring the forest fires.

"We have been so far contacted by three Slovenian families who are currently in Rhodes. They have all been evacuated and are out of danger. We have also been asked for advice by a group of Slovenians who wished to travel there today," says a joint press release by the ministry and the Slovenian Embassy in Athens.

All Slovenian citizens there are urged to e-mail the embassy at sloembassy.athens@gov.si to let them know their whereabouts. For emergencies, the embassy opened a phone number +306976407710.

"Slovenian citizens who are already in the affected areas are advised to follow the instructions of civil protection, local authorities and hotel staff. Should they be in imminent danger, they should dial 112." Those who arrived in Rhodes with a tourist agent are advised to keep in touch with the tour organiser, the release says.
