DELO

Quotas for women on corporate boards
"Women quotas at companies to be mandatory": Despite a voluntary initiative for gender equality on corporate boards existing in Slovenia since 2019, 70% of the companies observed do not meet the goal. Legislative solutions are now in the pipeline to impose mandatory quotas for women under an EU directive. (front page, page 8)

Spectator sports
"Two sports spectacles in a row at Stožice": More than 20,000 sporting fans are expected at Stožice complex over the next two days as Slovenia's football champions Olimpija face Bulgaria's Ludogorets in UEFA Champions League qualifying tonight and the national men's basketball team take on Greece in a friendly on Wednesday. (front page, page 13, 14)

Niger coup
"Niger sinking deeper into crisis": A week will have passed tomorrow since Niger's democratically elected president Mohamed Bazoum was toppled. Despite calls by the international community for coup leaders to restore the president, they appear to be determined to complete their mission as time is running out for a peaceful solution. (front page, page 6)

Tourism
"Kranj - capital of summer vibrancy": While tourism workers at the seaside and many other places in the country are complaining about lower than expected visitor numbers these days, the provincial capital of Gorenjska is hoping for a record season in terms of the nights spent. (front page, page 7, commentary 12)

Snake bites
"What to do when bitten by viper": A six-year-old was barely rescued after being bitten by a viper in a Croatian national park and a young Swede had to be airlifted from a mountain in Slovenia after he took hold of an adder. Snake bites are rare, but will happen. (front page, page 10)

Cycling World Championships
"End of hide and seek: Pogačar going to the worlds for two medals": The Slovenian Cycling Association has confirmed that Tadej Pogačar will compete at the upcoming Glasgow Cycling World Championships. The world's No. 1 rider will chase the rainbow jersey in the road race and time trial. (front page)

New consulate in Manila
"Will it be any easier to hire Filipinos here now?": Slovenia is expected to open a consulate in the Philippines this year, which means the Filipinos who would like to work in Slovenia will be able to get the paperwork in Manila. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Property auctions
"15 flats that you can buy in August": The paper lists a selection of residential properties available at auctions until the end of September. (front page, pages 12, 13)

Healthcare
"Pharma industry's record payments to doctors and organisations": 21 pharmaceutical companies that sell original drugs in Slovenia and generics producers Lek and Krka paid EUR 14.4 million to doctors and health organisations last year. They paid a further EUR 1.1 million to patient associations. (front page, pages 6, 7)

Consumer prices
"Inflation down, fuel up": Slovenia's annual inflation rate fell to 6.1% in July, while regulated prices of diesel and regular petrol were marked up by more than 5 cents. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Interviews with MPs
"For more ministries outside Ljubljana": The paper runs an interview with Dušan Stojanovič, an MP for the Freedom Movement, as the first in a series of interviews with representatives of all five deputy factions in parliament. (front page, pages 2, 3)

Tourism
"Fewer tourists but more foreigners in Ptuj": Slovenia's oldest city attracted 25,800 tourists in the first half of the year, who spent 62,700 nights there. This compares to 28,100 and 66,000, respectively, in the same period last year. However, the number of foreign visitors is up on 2022 and 2019. (front page, page 16)

Public contracting
"Review sides with Maribor architects": A review has shown that the Education Ministry's call for best design for a new centre for the deaf and hard of hearing in Maribor was conducted unlawfully. (front page, page 13)
