BSH halts production, Ljubno industrial zone destroyed by flood

Nazarje, 4 August - The Nazarje-based home appliance maker BSH Hišni Aparati has been forced to halt production due to the flooding by the river Savinja caused by heavy rains that have hit northern Slovenia. The industrial zone in the nearby Ljubno ob Savinji is meanwhile said to be "completely destroyed" by the flooding.

The water level in the company's plant is up to 1.5 metres, BSH Hišni Aparati director Boštjan Gorjup told the STA on Friday.

Gorjup said that the damage would be assessed in the coming days, adding that Economy Minister Matjaž Han had been notified about the flooding.

In Ljubno ob Savinji, some 10 km north-west of Nazarje, the swollen Savinja has "completely destroyed" the local industrial zone, said Mayor Franjo Naraločnik.

The Gorenje Hisense home appliances plant, some 10 km north-east, has not been flooded and the company's employees are on a collective annual leave, the company told the STA.

The same is true for the nearby plastic product maker Plastika Skaza, which also stands along the Paka river in Velenje.
