Ljubljana, 5 August - Major roads around Slovenia, in particular in the north and northeast regions of Gorenjska, Koroška and Štajerska, remain closed due to flooding, including the A1 motorway.

The eastbound A1 motorway is closed between Žalec and Vransko, while the westbound section is closed between Blagovica and Šempeter, both around the wider Celje area.

With the north flooded, the only way to travel between east and west, for example between Ljubljana and Maribor, is currently to take a huge detour through the southern Kozjansko region and Brežice.

Tourists travelling through Slovenia to Croatia and further south are advised to take either the A2 motorway, which enters Slovenia through the Karavanke tunnel, or the A4 through Maribor.

There were multiple bridge collapses and landslides in Koroška and Gorenjska and the situation is changing by the minute.

Bridge collapses have been reported in Komenda and Domžale, where the bridge on the main regional road connecting Domžale and Ljubljana has collapsed.

The bridge over the Kamniška Bistrica near Dol pri Ljubljani has collapsed as well.

Reports of the collapses of smaller bridges are coming from around the country and travellers are advised to avoid affected regions.

Also closed is the railway between the city of Celje and Zidani Most on the border with Croatia,

However, to facilitate at least some travel, a rail service between Ljubljana and Sevnica via Trebnje will run every two hours, Slovenian Railways said. From Sevnica, a bus service will then be organised to Celje.
