Website launched to pool aid for flood-hit areas

Ljubljana, 7 August - Those wanting to help locals in flood-stricken areas with services and goods can now register on a special website generated for this purpose. Available at poplave2023.urszr.si, the website dubbed "Floods 2023" will enable the Civil Protection to direct aid to the right place at the right time.

"Today is the time when we have to clean buildings, fix roads, heat homes, after which comes the time for home appliances," said Sandi Curk from Civil Protection, as he called on tradesmen such as carpenters, roofers and plumbers etc. to help out at a news conference in Ljubljana on Monday.

"Aid is important, but it must be targetted, coordinated and organised," Curk, head of Civil Protection for the region of Notranjska, said as he presented the website.

Once a person gets registered, they can select the goods and services - which are as diverse as providing machinery or installing flooring - they can provide.

The list will be daily updated to accommodate for the actual needs on the ground.

The person whose offer is accepted will then receive information in a day or two where their services are most needed.

According to the data on the website, nearly 1,230 people have already offered to help.
