"This gesture of solidarity from the football community aims to provide urgent aid and relief to those affected by the recent tragic natural disaster. The allocated funds will be entrusted to two reputable organisations, Caritas and the Red Cross."

The NZS added in the press release on Tuesday that the two organisations were known for their professional and transparent humanitarian work, which made sure that aid would reach those who urgently needed it.

The umbrella national football association added that the "football family stands united in its commitment to help communities rebuild and recover from the extensive floods".

It added that, together with the UEFA, "we firmly believe that by working hand in hand with charities, we will be able to help [Slovenia] rebuild as soon as possible and offer a ray of hope to the affected citizens."

The UEFA and the NZS expressed deepest sympathy to people who suffered damage last week, with the national association also expressing gratitude to the UEFA and its president, Slovenian lawyer Aleksander Čeferin, for their support in this initiative.
