President expresses gratitude to religious communities for active aid

Ljubljana, 10 August - After meeting representatives of the Catholic Church in June, President Nataša Pirc Musar met representatives of the Islamic community, the Evangelical Church and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Slovenia on Thursday. The talks focussed on flood relief efforts, with the president thanking the religious officials for their contribution.

"I am extremely grateful that members of all three communities are actively helping on the ground. They have organised various humanitarian fundraising campaigns, and help is also coming from their sister communities in foreign countries," she wrote on her Facebook profile.

At the meeting the officials presented her the current situation and challenges of their religious communities.

The Islamic community in Slovenia said today's working lunch with the president at the Brdo pri Kranju estate had been attended by Mufti Nevzet Porić and head of the administrative office, Haris Muratagić.

The Slovenian Evangelical Lutheran Church was represented by Bishop Leon Novak and the Serbian Orthodox Church by Aleksandar Obradović.

The officials agreed to cooperate on different projects in the future as well.
