Slovenia sees best July on record in tourist nights

Ljubljana, 25 August - The number of tourist arrivals in Slovenia in July exceeded one million and nights reached nearly three million, which is 9.2% and 9% more than in July 2022, respectively, for what are the highest figures ever recorded in July, the latest data from the Statistics Office shows.

Arrivals and nights by domestic tourists fell by 10% year-on-year to 163,000 arrivals and to 607,000 nights, but increased by as much compared with pre-Covid July 2019 figures. A third of all Slovenian tourist nights were generated on the coast.

Foreign tourists generated about 877,000 arrivals and 2.3 million nights, 15% more than in July last year and in July 2019. Foreign tourists generated the largest number of nights in Ljubljana, Piran and Bled.

Domestic tourists generated 21% and foreign 79% of all nights.

Tourists from Germany generated almost 387,200 overnight stays, or 17% of all nights by foreigners, mostly holidaying in the municipality of Bovec in the Alps.

Tourist from Czechia accounted for 11% of tourist nights, followed by Dutch tourists (10%), Belgians (7%), Hungarians (6%) and Austrians (5%).

In the first seven months of the year, as many as 3.5 million tourists visited Slovenia and generated nearly 9.2 million nights, or 5% more than in the same period in 2022.

Slovenians generated just over 2.6 million nights in this period, or 29% of all, down 25% year-on-year, and foreigners around 6.5 million, or 71% of all, up 25%.

German tourists generated more than a million nights in the seven-month period, which is around 10% of all tourist nights.
