Veteran members of Yugoslav work brigades join flood relief effort
Mežica/Črna na Koroškem, 26 August - An international team comprising individuals who used to participate in youth labour brigades in the former Yugoslavia will join the flood relief efforts in Koroška today.
Around 70 people from Slovenia, Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina are expected to show up, Nenad Lauko, who heads the Koroška chapter of the association of brigadiers, told the STA.
Youth brigades were organized voluntary labour activities of young people in Yugoslavia. The youths typically built infrastructure such as roads and railways.
Lauko said the members of their association have already helped several times since the early August floods, but now they will be joined by colleagues from abroad for the first time.
The association brings together individuals who used to participate in Yugoslav youth brigades.
