Chinese community in Slovenia makes donation for post-flood reconstruction

Ljubljana, 26 August - The Association of Chinese Enterprises in Slovenia and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Slovenia raised EUR 20,000 at a fund raising event in Ljubljana on Friday to help Slovenia after the devastating storms and floods.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Slovenia, the Chinese community in Slovenia raised the funds to help with the intervention and reconstruction.

Ji Rongqiang, head of the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Slovenia, said that many Chinese people who have lived in Slovenia for many years, including himself, had benefited from the support and help of Slovenians. The assistance after the storm reflects the traditional friendship and mutual help between Chinese and Slovenians, he said.

Jasna Lhotka, head of the Asia and Oceania Sector at the Foreign Ministry, who accepted the donation on behalf of the Slovenian government, expressed her gratitude for the important support of the Chinese community in Slovenia during the difficult times after the country was hit by the worst disaster in its history.

It is a reflection of solidarity, friendship, compassion and respect, which further strengthens the ties between the Chinese and Slovenians, she stressed.

Chinese Ambassador to Slovenia Wang Shunqing expressed his sympathy with the Slovenian government and the people in the affected areas, saying that the donation reflected the fact that the Chinese community in Slovenia had always worked closely with the local community, a fact of which he is very proud. He expressed his conviction that the Slovenian government and the people will work together to overcome the difficulties and rebuild their homeland.
