Debevec world champion with new world record
Baku, 27 August - More than two decades after winning Olympic gold, Slovenian veteran shooter Rajmond Debevec achieved an unexpected career highlight on Sunday by winning the 300-metre rifle prone event at the International Sports Shooting Wold Championship with a perfect score of 600 points, a new world record.

"In theory it is still possible to shoot better. If I had even more inner tens," the 60-year-old Debevec told the STA jokingly.
"The conditions were perfect for me. It was a bit cloudy, there was practically no wind. I leveraged these conditions to my advantage and felt great from the first to the last shot."
Debevec is one of Slovenia's most successful athletes of all times and holds three Olympic medals, having won gold in Sydney in 2000 and bronze in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.
The 300-metre rifle prone is not an Olympic event but it was the event that Debevec knew he could win.
On Monday he will appear in the 300-metre rifle three positions. He does not expect much since, he says, he is no longer among the best shooters in this event.
"But I will fight and will do my best to achieve a good result."
