National emergency plan for floods no longer in use from tomorrow

Ljubljana, 30 August - The country's Civil Protection chief Srečko Šestan has revoked his decision to activate the national protection and rescue plan for the floods emergency, after it was put in operation in the morning on 4 August, as soon as it was clear that large areas of Slovenia were hit by devastating floods.

The plan will no longer be in place from roughly 6:30am on Thursday, the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief announced on Wednesday.

This means that Šestan's orders issued between 4 and 31 August regarding protection, rescue and aid efforts will no longer apply.

Remaining in force, but no more than until the end of September, are his orders regarding emergency measures on water infrastructure, erection of modular bridges, removal of waste, logistical support for international teams helping in the relief effort, psychosocial assistance to the victims, and the app Floods 2023.

Slovenian soldiers will be able to keep helping out with engineering teams, water supply teams and medical units, expectedly until 22 September.

Emergency measures will also continue being carried out on local and state roads as the risk of water affecting them is still present, but not beyond 30 September.
