Event commemorates four Slovenian victims of Fascism in Basovizza

BASOVIZZA, Italy - A ceremony commemorated four Slovenian victims of Fascism at the memorial site in Basovizza, Italy, where they were killed in 1930. Ferdo Bidovec, Fran Marušič, Alojz Valenčič and Zvonimir Miloš, known as the Basovizza heroes, were members of a secret anti-fascist organisation who were shot in Basovizza following a short trial under fascist laws before a fast-track court in Trieste. Janja Garnbret ends season with a win in Koper

KOPER - Slovenian climbing superstar Janja Garnbret won a World Cup competition in lead in Koper on Saturday to claim the record 41st World Cup victory. This being her last competition this year, the 24-year-old, who ranks first in women's lead World Cup standings, ended the season on a high after achieving all of the goals she had set herself. Her fellow Slovenian Vita Lukan finished third at the event, and Japan's Ai Mori was second.

Slovenia make it to quarter-finals of European Volleyball Championship

VARNA, Bulgaria - Slovenia made it to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Men's European Volleyball Championship for the fifth time in a row after coming back from a two-set deficit against Turkey on Saturday. The silver-medallists from the previous championship will now face Ukraine, whom they beat 3:1 in the preliminary round.
