Slovenia concerned about women in Iran year after Amini death

Ljubljana, 16 September - Prime Minister Robert Golob said a year after the death of Mahsa Amini that "the situation of women in Iran remains of serious concern," while Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon said today "we also celebrate incredible determination of women and youth around the world in their peaceful pursuit of freedom, human rights, democracy and life in dignity."

Golob said in a statement shared by the government on X that crackdown, intimidation and systematic oppression of women and human rights defenders continued in Iran.

The prime minister urged international community to "continue defending them and their just fight for freedom and better future".

Fajon also shared her statement on X, saying that the women and youth fighting for freedom, human rights, democracy and dignity were "our future". "May they stay strong," she added.

Amini was killed on this day a year ago at the age of 22 by the Iranian morality police for allegedly not wearing the hijab in accordance with government standards. Her death sparked wide-ranging anti-government protests.
