Slovenia's population increases in H1

Ljubljana, 1 November - Slovenia had a population of 2,120,937 on 1 July this year, up by nearly 4,000 compared to the end of 2022, which is due to immigration, the latest statistics show. Foreigners accounted for 9.3% of the country's population.

The trend of natural decrease and positive net migration continued in this year's second quarter. The total population growth amounted to 3,263 inhabitants, the Statistics Office said on Monday.

In the first half of the year, the number of Slovenian citizens dropped by nearly 3,300, and the number of foreigners increased by almost 7,300.

On 1 July, the population of Slovenia was 1,066,634 men and 1,054,303 women. The share of women among Slovenian citizens was 51%, and the share of women among foreign citizens was 37%. Both figures were slightly lower than at the end of 2022.

In the second quarter of the year, more people immigrated to Slovenia than in the same period in 2022. The number of immigrants increased by 7% to 8,414.

Meanwhile, the number of emigrants dropped by 4% to 4,355. The number of Slovenian citizens who emigrated abroad (1,247) was lower than the number of foreigners who emigrated (3,108).

Positive net migration was recorded for foreign nationals, while 315 more Slovenian citizens emigrated from Slovenia than immigrated to it.
