Road between Mežica and Prevalje closed once again

Mežica, 6 November - The main road through the Mežica Valley in northern Slovenia was closed to traffic due to landslide erosion on Monday, less than three months after it reopened following early August floods. Mežica Mayor Marko Maze described the situation as unbearable and called for immediate repairs.

"The situation is unbearable," said Maze. "We cannot afford having the road closed all the time, students need to go to school, there are interventions and so on," the mayor said about the closure between Mežica and the village of Poljane.

The road had to be closed after strong rainfall this weekend, which retriggered the same landslide that closed the road in August. After urgent repairs were carried out, the road was opened for alternate one-way traffic in late August.

Experts have already visited the site and are preparing a report, the mayor said, also adding that the landslide was not moving at the moment.
