New Year's expectations
"Slovenians most concerned about their pockets and safety": A survey conducted by the pollster Mediana about the expectations of Slovenians of 2024 shows that optimism is the most pronounced among young people. Fear from the spread of intolerance among people is increasing. (front page, 2)

Ski jumping
"Peter Prevc already touched the Golden Eagle": Slovenia's Peter Prevc was 3rd in the qualifiers for the first event of the Four Hills Tournament in Germany's Oberstdorf yesterday in front of a record crowd of 16,300. The remaining four Slovenians also qualified. (front page, 18)

UKC Ljubljana renovation
"Slovenia in a development standstill": Renovation of UKC Ljubljana, the country's main hospital, is taking place "at a snail's pace", and if it continues this way, it will never be finished, Delo says, also wondering whether it is time to construct a new hospital. (front page, 3)


Traffic safety
"More traffic accidents, fewer injuries": The unofficial data shows that Slovenian roads claimed 84 lives this year, which means that traffic safety, at least as the worst consequences of traffic accidents are concerned, is close to the level from last year. (front page, 12, commentary 14)

Securities clearing
"Kenda excluded from ownership, Agropop guitarist first violin": Srečko Kenda, the former chief financial officer of Istrabenz, and his company Goldinar and four other owners of KDD, the central securities clearing corporation, were stripped of their voting rights, this was recently followed by their exclusion from ownership. Tourism in Maribor
"A record tourist year": Maribor is having a record tourist year, with the threshold of half a million overnight stays having been surpassed already in November. The number is expected to reach 540,000 by the end of the year. (front page, 14-15)

Attacks in Bab-el-Mandeb
"Houthi's attack felt also in Koper" Due to the attacks from Yemen in the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, cargo ships from the Far East are being late to all European ports, including Slovenia's sole maritime port of Koper. (front page, 6)

Alpine Ski World Cup
"Green light for Kranjska Gora": The organisers of the 60th Golden Fox, the two-event Alpine Ski World Cup meet for women, have been given the green light for the ski festival to take place in Kranjska Gora next week. (front page, 10)
