Ljubljana, 7 February - Below is a review of the headlines in Slovenian dailies for Wednesday, 7 February:


Flood reconstruction
"Reconstruction fund to collect EUR 1.6bn": The recently passed changes to the budget implementation legislation will launch the flood reconstruction fund. Funds will flow in from different sources and the finance minister believes EUR 1.6 billion could be collected in five years. (front page, 3)

Prevc retires
"Champion Peter Prevc bids farewell": As ski jumper Peter Prevc announced his retirement, he thanked those who helped him, above all his wife Mina and their two kids. (front page, 14)

"Inflation slowing down": Inflation in Slovenia is slowing down rapidly, dropping from 4.2% year-on-year in December to 3.3% in January, with a 0.6% deflation recorded on the monthly level. (front page, 8)


"After Žibert, Švarc Pipan leaving as well": The secretary general of the Social Democrats, Klemen Žibert, resigned after Justice Minister Dominika Švarc Pipan accused him of meddling in her ministry's affairs, particularly in the purchase of an overpriced building in Ljubljana. A few hours later, Prime Minister Robert Golob said he accepted Švarc Pipan's resignation. (front page, 2 and 3)

National education programme
"Reading skills and encouraging learning environment": The Education Ministry presented a draft national education programme for 2023-2033, which focuses above all on reading skills, digitalisation and an environment that encourages learning. (front page, 4 and 12)


"Žibert steps down": The scandal surrounding the purchase of a dilapidated building by the Justice Ministry has swept away not only Justice Minister Dominika Švarc Pipan but also Social Democrats' (SD) secretary general Klemen Žibert. (front page, 2 and 3)

Prevc retires
"Jump into new life": Ski jumper Peter Prevc has been thinking about retiring for two years and will be hanging up his ski jumping kit at the end of the season. He does not yet know what he will be doing in the future. (front page, 10)
